What to see and do:
The ruins of the 13th century castle, which gave Beverino its name, overlook the village. Part of the walls and the main gate can still be seen. The Bishop of Luni and the Malaspina family fought over the dominion of the castle between the 12th and the 13th centuries. The original fortified village is still intact.
The proto- romanic church of San Cipriano and the baroque Church of Santa Croce (restored in the 17th century) are of interest.
In the hamlet of Corvara, there are still traces of an ancient castle. The Church of San Michele, a 13th century church, restored in the 18th century, contains an interesting 15th century baptismal font.
There are several footpaths connecting the villages.
It is possible to practice many sports in Beverino, such as: biking, hiking and horseback riding in the area around the Vara River. This area is part of the Montemarcello-Magra Regional Park (info: www.parcomagra.it ).
