What to see and do
Bolano is located between the Magra and Vara Rivers. Three separate towns: Bolano, Montebello and Ceparana make up the community. The town hall is in Bolano.
Montebello is situated in the highest part of the territory. It is divided into three smaller hamlets: Cima, Mezzo and Fondo.
Ceparana is a modern commercial market town.
Bolano, the most interesting of the three, has maintained its medieval structure. The atmosphere of the past can be felt while walking along the path behind its ancient walls,” dietro le mura”, and in its narrow alleys.
The landscape of Bolano is varied; from its terraced hills lined with olive trees, to the suggestive river valley. Water birds can be observed along the river among the water canes and willows. This area is part of the Montemarcello-Magra Regional Park (info: www.parcomagra.it ).
The Alta Via dei Monti Liguri (the Ligurian Way), is an ancient footpath which connected France and Liguria, and ended in Ceparana-Bolano. It can still be visited today (info:www.altaviadeimontiliguri.it).
